WPC Wood-Plastic Composite Flooring Installation Guide
This is a clear, practical and ready-to-use installation guide for WPC wood-plastic composite flooring, divided into two most common methods for indoor click-lock type and outdoor square/round hole type. You can follow these steps with almost no mistakes.

I. Installation of Indoor WPC Click-Lock Flooring (Most Commonly Used)
Suitable for home use, balconies, kitchens, bathrooms – no glue or nails required.
1. Preparations
Floor requirements: Flat, dry and clean, with a height difference ≤2mm/2m
Ambient temperature: 15–30℃ is optimal; leave the flooring indoors for 24 hours in advance to acclimatize to the temperature
Essential tools: Tape measure, pencil, cutting machine, rubber mallet, shims, utility knife

2. Basic Steps
Lay moisture barrier film
Fully cover the floor with a moisture barrier mat, overlap by ≥20cm, and turn up 2–3cm along the walls.
Leave expansion gaps
An expansion gap of 8–10mm must be left around all walls, door frames and columns to prevent heaving and deformation caused by thermal expansion and contraction.
Lay the first row
Place the flooring with the groove side against the wall and the tenon side facing outwards
Put expansion shims between the planks and the wall
Stagger the planks along the length for a more aesthetic and stable finish
Join the click-lock system
Tilt the new plank at 30° and insert it into the click-lock of the previous plank
Flatten it and tap firmly with a rubber mallet to lock in place
Measure and cut the last plank to size, leaving an expansion gap as well
Finishing touches
Install baseboards to cover the expansion gaps
Use transition strips for edge finishing at doorways

II. Installation of Outdoor WPC Flooring (Joist-Fixed Type)
Suitable for patios, courtyards and balcony floors.
1. Basic Structure
Floor → Joists → WPC Flooring
Common joist materials: Galvanized square steel, preservative-treated wood, aluminum alloy joists
Joist spacing: 30–40cm (closer spacing for greater stability)
2. Installation Steps
Level and fix the joists to keep them horizontal
Lay the WPC flooring on the joists, leaving a 3–5mm gap between planks for drainage and heat dissipation
Secure with stainless steel hidden clips/stainless steel screws
Fasten at least one point per joist for each plank
Leave a 10–15mm expansion gap around the perimeter
Use edge trim for end finishing

III. Key Notes (Extremely Important)
Expansion gaps are a must
WPC flooring expands and contracts with temperature changes – failure to leave gaps will definitely cause heaving and deformation.
No full gluing or bonding
Click-lock flooring is secured only by the click-lock system; do not fix it with glue.
Wear a mask when cutting
Wood-plastic composite produces a large amount of dust – take protective measures.
Do not lay directly on soil outdoors
A raised joist frame is a must to ensure ventilation and drainage.
Suitable for underfloor heating
The recommended temperature is ≤55℃, and the click-lock type is more suitable.
